After 13 races at 9 meetings, the 2007 LMA Euro Saloon and Sports Car Championship came to an end with 72 different drivers and 24 different makes of car having taken part. Despite the time
of year, good weather ensured a fitting end to the 2007 season.
Qualifying 36 cars ventured out in the qualifying session, leading to difficulty for most drivers in getting in a clear lap. Two long
straights mean that Snetterton is a power circuit, this was backed up with the front three all being turbocharged "mega-power" cars. Pole position was taken by Steve Scott's Ford Escort Cosworth, with Mal Davison's
Noble M400 second and Nick Williamson's Escort Cosworth third. Class B was headed by Douglas Ellwood's Marcos Mantis, Joss Ronchetti's Talbot Sunbeam Lotus seeming strangely off-song. 2007 Champion Simon Taylor
elected to run a Renault Clio in Class B for this final meeting and threw down the gauntlet by qualifying ahead of the regular Clio pilots.
Ian Craig's BMW M3 headed Class C from Andy McLennan's giant-killing
1300cc Suzuki Swift and class champion Stephen Pearcy's Rover 220GTi. With Taylor not running in class D there was scope for someone else to win – Jim Mepham (Renault Megane) stepped up to the plate to take
class pole comfortably from Alan Broad (Honda Integra) and Rhys Lloyd (MG ZR). Simon Jackson's Vauxhall Nova (Pongo) was making its last appearance and took class E pole.
Race 1 After a false start
which saw Martin Johnston and Alex Schooledge spin out at Riches, 34 cars got away cleanly. Steve Scott launched off at a blistering pace, leading the first lap by over a second from Nick Williamson and Mal Davison.
Scott simply drove away to win the race by 9 seconds while Williamson and Davison scrapped for 2nd and 3rd, the Escort eventually triumphing by 0.4 second. Class A cars took the next three places as well with Derek
Hale (Honda Accord) finishing well clear of John Hammersley (Honda Accord) and Richard Hawken (Nissan Primera), the latter pair separated by just 3/10ths.
Joss Ronchetti was back on song for the race and just
edged Douglas Ellwood for Class B honours with the returning Stephen Oliver (Lotus Elise) 3rd in class. David Pierce took the Clio Cup win narrowly from Simon Taylor while Ian Craig backed up his qualifying
performance with a big Class C win from Andy McLennan and Stephen Pearcy. Jim mepham took his first class win of the season in class D from Rhys Lloyd and Alan Broad while Pongo came home for another class E win for
Simon Jackson.
Race 2 Another fast start saw Steve Scott pull out an even bigger first lap lead from Nick Williamson, this time Scott's Escort would go on to win by over 12 seconds as Williamson
struggled to stay in touch. Mal Davison was unable to keep up the pace, a poor first lap temporarily dropped him to 4th from Derek Hale, but he pulled back to finish a very distant 3rd from the two Escorts. Richard
Hawken had suffered electrical failure on the rolling lap leaving 6th place up for grabs. This was filled by Joss Ronchetti who just held off Tony Soper's Harrier to take 6th and the Class B win from Douglas
Ellwood, some 3 seconds back.
Ian Craig got into the top ten to record his second class C win of the day, but Stephen Pearcy shaded Andy McLennan for 2nd in class after a close battle with Stephen Oliver's
class B Lotus Elise. Jim mepham was hoping for a second class win of the day in class D, but an off-track excursion relegated him to last place and left Mark Nicholson (Honda Integra) to record his first LMA class
win from Alan Broad's similar car. Alan Wilshire made it an Integra 1-2-3 in class. Simon Jackon signed off Pongo's racing career with a final class E win of the season.
