Road Saloons
- The Honda Civics stamped their authority on proceedings with Simon Taylor taking pole position by over ½ second from Lee Scott's Fiesta XR2, followed by the second Honda of Ian Kirk. The next assortment of Vauxhalls and Volkswagens were separated by just 2.5 seconds, suggesting a close race. So it proved, whilst Simon Taylor made an early break it was Michael Collins in the harlequin Astra GTE who took the fight to him, harrying all the way with increasingly desperate lunges into the hairpin however the Honda had a potential "second a lap" advantage over the Astra. Simon held his nerve and took the win by just 1.6 seconds. This pair were in a class of their own, third place man Lee Connell in the VW Golf Gti finished 25 seconds adrift. A gritty drive from Simon Jackson saw him claw his way from last place following and opening lap moment to finish 6th.
Euro Saloons
– The grid may have been small however the quality was there and the battle between Peter Challis Supertouring and Pete Thurston's mighty thundersaloon Prelude was eagerly anticipated. Thurston took pole with a 52s lap, followed by the 500bhp Sapphire Cossie of Phil Libby. Challis was third, chased by reigning champion Roger Donnan, his Hawk Stratos making it's competitive debut. Ted Reddick had clutch problems with the Ferrari 355 challenge but managed fifth whilst Peter Simpson's racing debut with the Lancia Delta Integrale was marred by fluid leaks causing his car to be flagged in.
The race saw Challis, Thurston, Libby and Reddick break from the pack and it looked close, but after two laps the tyres came up to temperature and the Nissan and Prelude stormed free. Thurston dipped into
48s laps in his chase of the Nissan, but just could not make it stick and so Challis took the win. Reddick and Libby were engaged in their own battle, but a half spin out of the hairpin scuppered the Ferrari's
chances and Ted was to finish eight seconds behind the Ford despite posting an almost identical fastest lap time. Pete Simpson and Roger Donnan were also enjoying a close dice, eventually settled in favour of the
Delta Integrale.
