Qualifying suggested that Graham Scott would have to work hard to keep his Stratos Corse ahead of Andy Thompson's Minari, which put in a stunning 1:41s lap time (over 2s faster than Graham)
however a blonde moment saw Thompson clout the kerb exiting the right-left-right complex in the woods as he was winding down from a hot lap, this bounced him round and planted him headlong into the tyre wall. Next
up was Ade Hawkins, whose commitment in John Artis' s 1750cc Alfa 33 was a sight to behold, and would have given John palpitations had he been witness. Richard Connell was 4th and class D leader whilst Jackie
Osborne was 2nd in class D using her old Alfa 33, now sporting new blue / green livery. Class E was headed by Neil Smith who was 6th quickest, and just 2 seconds separated the next five drivers. Trevor Nicosia 's
infamous Y10 turbo made one of it's better appearances and completed the whole session whilst newcomer Julian Brown settled in with his Uno turbo engined Fiat X19.
From seventeen entries just fourteen made it to the grid following various maladies. Richard Connell's engine let go and Trevor's Y10 expired before the green flag lap. Frantic work had seen
Andy Thompson's Minari repaired, sporting a wet tyre on the rear and a very battered front end however as the race started he was off the pace and retired with engine worries. Neil Smith led for the first lap before
Graham Scott's Corse Stratos hit the front but man on a mission was Ade Hawkins who didn't let the tight confines of Cadwell constrain him, however his grassy lines didn't impress the clerk of the course and he was
served a stop and go penalty. Ade's dander must have been well up because the next few laps saw him black flagged for corner cutting again and his name got a good airing on the PA system after the race as the clerk
sought to discuss his tactics. Julian Brown suffered a stuck throttle with his X19 turbo and was out, and as the race settled Russ Yates took over a comfortable second place and seemed safe however Ian Stapleton's
bright green GTV had found 3s a lap since the morning and bore down on Russ in the closing stages to take 2nd overall. Russ settled for the class B win, followed by Neil Smith in his usual class E top spot. Next up
was John Griffiths who had been shadowed race long by Peter Woodard for class D honours. Jackie Osborne had been confident enough to play her Joker and on paper looked favourite for a class win, but she was denied
when her 33 dropped all it's oil. The Karwacki / Brookfield battle lasted until Emma's Alfasud lost power, allowing Ian a good points trawl from his Joker round.
