Enzo Goes Clear At Cadwell
Enzo Buscaglia, with his fearsome Alfa 75 V6, put the problems of
Snetterton behind him with a convincing win in the race 23 seconds clear of second man Paul Buckley. Gary Lucas sqeezed his Alfasud home a couple of seconds ahead of Danny Wright who took
another fourth overall in the Alfa 156.
Qualifying
A peculiarity of qualifying at the tight and tricky Cadwell circuit
were that the time gaps between the first and second men in every class were not close. If you're good at Cadwell, you're really good, maybe, or just getting the right traffic breaks?
In Class A 5.91 seconds separated Enzo from Paul Buckley. Class B leader was Gary Lucas by 6.79 from Terry Di Francescos 128.
Closer were Ian Connel and Stuart Barrington-Hall with 3.75 in Class C whilst Brian Thorp was 4.09 faster than Julian Birley to take Class D. In Class E Graham Warner recorded a time 3.83 quicker than Derek Jones.
Race
So, in the race, Classes A and B were taken by Enzo and Gary with Paul Buckley and Russ Yates second in each case. Ian Connell,
once again, made use of an off by his nearest class rival, Stuart Barrington-Hall, who went autocrossing in his Maserati at Charlies corner on the first lap. Ian took Class C from Ron Davidson's Alfa
GTV which is 'still overweight and running a standard engine'. Brian Thorp's 1700 Alfa 33 was sixth overall on the way to winning Class D ahead of Steve Davidson, whilst the twists and turns of
Cadwell obviously suited Graham Warner and his 1500 Alfa 33, the combination finishing a remarkable fifth overall taking a new class lap record in the process. New records were also set up by Enzo
Buscaglia and Gary Lucas.
Is this the start of a run by Enzo, or can someone else take the spoils at Mallory? It all happens again on April 24th.
