Andy Thompson (Minari) had the advantage in class
B over Tim Lewis (Alfa Sprint) at the previous round at Oulton Park, however Tim was 0.7s clear in Qualifying at Mallory. Tony Soper headed class A in the Le Mans Alfa GTV 24valve, comfortably ahead of
Lindsay Ward (Lancia Thema turbo) who was enjoying his first ever visit to Mallory. Class C saw 2002 champion Neil Smith (Alfa 156) take the fastest lap with Ian Stapleton (Alfetta GTV) just a few tenths
adrift and trying so hard he explored the Gerards gravel trap. Class D was the preserve of Westley Evans whilst Roger Donnan was at the top of class E. Phil Thompson was making a welcome
return with his Panda, now fitted with an experimental 1242cc engine after his high revving unit exploded at Brands earlier in the year.
Lap times suggested a three way fight between the
class B duo of Lewis and Thompson and Soper from class A. So it proved, with Thompson dropping out after eight laps with throttle cable failure leaving Lewis the victor with Soper just 2 seconds adrift. Neil
Smith headed Westley Evans for third with Evans pushing his class D car within 3 tenths of a second of Smiths class C best lap. Stephen Ousley put in one of his best ever performances taking his first ever
class win (by just half a second) and a satisfying 7th overall, however Roger Donnan pushed him so hard that his Alfa 33 was not able to make the second race. In trouble after six laps was Phil
Thompson whose Panda had a broken crankshaft, all the more galling since he had played his joker.
Race two saw the Lewis-Thompson-Soper battle
resume, finishing in that order. Despite intense pressure Neil Smith held Lindsay ward behind him and just tenths seperated the best laps of the four car train of Smith, Ward, Evans & Stapleton. Roger
Donnan held station ahead of Emma Karwacki's Alfasud for the class E win.

News Roger Donnan still comfortably leads the championship with 288 points. Tim Lewis jumps into
second with 236 over Andy Thompson and Westley Evans who are joint third with 218 points. Of these only Roger has played his Joker so far this season.
Class A is still led by Ted Reddick but Lindsay Ward is closing and has now passed John
Rutter's tally, Class B will be close between Andy Thompson and Tim Lewis. Ron Davidson heads up class C but with Ian Stapleton and Neil Smith now racking up points he may have
his work cut out. Westley Evans has extended his lead over Peter Woodard in class D and Roger Donnan now looks secure at the top of class E.
