Qualifying
was dominated by Ted Reddick's Ferrari 355 which was almost two seconds clear of class B pole man Tim Lewis. Next up was Andy Thompson's Minari whilst the challenge threatened by Glen Cantello's 450bhp twin turbo Stratos Evoluzione faded with overheating problems. Fifth but also in trouble was Nick Sismey, his rapid 33 once again failed him and he would not make any of the days races. Class C quickest was Ian Stapleton ahead of Ron Davidson's orange GTV. Westley Evans annexed class D and Bryn Griffith's turbo diesel whooshed to pole in class E.
Race one started well, the turbodiesel 156 was soon overhauled by Ted's 355 however the
race was stopped after Ian Stapleton's GTV suffered seized steering at the Russell Chicane. In the startline melee of reorganising the grid the Stratos Evoluzione expired. At the restart Ted again threaded his way to the front where he was to stay but Tim Lewis kept him honest, lapping within a second of the 355. Andy Thompson held third spot and Bryn Griffiths took a fine fourth overall. On a mission in sixth position was Trevor Nicosia, enjoying an outing in the ex Soper Alfa 164 however a mistake on lap seven saw him derange the rear of the big Alfa in the bombhole tyre wall, dropping him to last place. Joker-playing Westley Evans and Ron Davidson both won their respective classes.
Race two was a war of attrition. Immediately in trouble was Trevor Nicosia (who had
played his joker) with a loose bonnet pin which forced a quick pit stop. Lap one saw Andy Thompson lunge optimistically in an effort to stay with Tim Lewis, however he made contact with Bryn Griffith's 156,
crippling both cars with upset wheels. Andy soldiered on with about 4" toe-in to last place, however luck was on his side as class leader Tim Lewis had misjudged his fuel level, the screaming Sprint coughed to a
standstill on lap eight. Ted almost lost his second victory, the 355 spent a lap misfiring, this cleared and he won (he also played his joker). Through it all came Ron Davidson for his second class win and
second overall, whilst Roger Donnans smoking class E Alfa 33 took a superb class victory and third overall. Westley Evans also won his class again despite losing gears and hitting the rev limiter on the straights.
Charles Cozens was rewarded with fifth place after frantic work all weekend to make his 33 run cleanly.
